Saint Louis IX of France (1214–1270)

Saint Louis IX of France (1214–1270)

Patron saint of Third Order members, barbers, and grooms

Feast day: August 25

Saint Louis, a king of France, was born in 1214. He lost his father at a young age and was moved to a love of holy things by his mother. He married a virtuous woman and became king two years later.

Louis was a peaceful and just king, ruling by his faith. His reign was welcome since the two kings before him were very violent. He led a crusade in 1238, and another in 1267. Alas, Louis would never again see his homeland. He became ill while on crusade and died after receiving the Last Sacraments.

He was canonized 27 years later.
