Saint Melito of Sardis (d. 180)

Feast day: April 1

Saint Melito of Sardis was a second-century exegete and apologist. He acted as bishop of Sardis, which was the capital of the ancient kingdom of Lydia. Little is known of Saint Melito’s life, but fragments of his ecclesiastical writings remain. Saint Melito’s most well-known tome is the Peri-Pascha, a Good Friday sermon that shows the similarities between Easter and Passover.
