August 31
Saint Nicodemus was a secret disciple of Jesus. He was a member of the Sanhedrin, the religious leaders of Israel, and he would meet with Jesus by night so as not to be seen. During Jesus’ Passion, Nicodemus reminded the other leaders that Jesus had the right to a trial. With Saint Joseph of Arimathea, Nicodemus prepared Jesus’ body for burial and placed him in the tomb. It is traditionally believed that Saint Nicodemus was martyred.
